What it is
RHA 4 is part of the RHA® Collection of “Resilient Hyaluronic Acid” (HA) dermal fillers from Teoxane / Revance Aesthetics. It is formulated for moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds — especially in areas with movement (talking, smiling, chewing) — and for deeper structural support in the face.
Specifically, it’s cleared for injection in the deep dermis to superficial sub-cutaneous tissue for correction of moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles/folds in adults 22+ years.
How it works
- The RHA line uses “Preserved Network Technology” to preserve higher-molecular-weight HA and produce a gel that better mimics naturally occurring HA in the skin.
- RHA 4 has higher firmness and structural support compared to RHA 2 or RHA 3, making it suitable for deeper folds, heavier contours and volume deficits.
- It integrates into tissue, supports structure, and yet is designed to maintain natural motion (“beautiful at rest — and in motion”).
- In clinical studies it demonstrated safe tissue integration, minimal inflammation, and good lifting of tissue in dynamic areas without impairing facial movement.
What it treats & benefits
- Deep facial wrinkles/folds (for example, nasolabial folds, marionette lines) and areas of tissue volume loss.
- Contouring and structural support: cheeks, temples, chin/jawline, mid-face hollows.
- Because of its resilient, movement-compatible design, it’s especially suited for dynamic areas where facial expressions are frequent.
- Durability: Many sources report results lasting up to approximately 15 months in appropriate patients and treatment areas.
Treatment process & expectations
- Consultation: Provider assesses your anatomy, motion zones, skin condition, volume loss, and sets goals.
- Injection session: Duration varies (~20-30 minutes or more depending on area and volume). Product is injected using a needle or cannula into the deep dermis or superficial subcutaneous tissue.
- Onset & results: Some immediate improvement visible; full settling may take days. Results can last up to ~12-15 months for many patients.
- Downtime: Generally minimal. Common side effects: swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, possible bumps — most resolve within days.
- Post-care: Follow your provider’s instructions (avoid heavy exercise right away, avoid dental/harsh treatments in that area, protect from extreme heat/cold, etc).
Candidate suitability & limitations
Good candidate if you:
- Have moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles/folds and/or volume deficits in facial areas (e.g., cheeks, jawline, chin) and want a filler with strong structural support that still permits natural facial movement.
- Want a filler that looks natural both at rest and in motion and is not too stiff or “frozen.”
- Are okay with maintenance (since the product is not permanent) and have realistic expectations.
